Professional Poker Players Know the Math

You see professional poker players all the time chatting about the math of Texas Holdem. To win at poker it is almost a necessity to know the poker odds. There can be a lot of math when it comes to playing Texas Holdem but the most important part is pot odds.

The first part of poker odds in online poker is the number of outs you have. That refers to the number of cards left in the deck that will improve your hand. Pot odds refer to the odds you get when looking at the current size of the pot versus your next bet. Here is how you calculate pot odds when playing online poker. It is really fairly easy to calculate your pot odds and it doesn’t have to be perfect. For example, if you have 8 outs remaining and after the flop there are 47 cards unseen, then your odds of hitting your hand are about 6-1. You need more than 6-1 odds for your next bet to be worth it. Professional poker players will know these odds.

While the pros know the odds they don’t get overwhelmed by them. The bottom line is that if you can determine that your bet size is small in relation to the pot, then you want to call. If you see that the bet is too high in relation to the pot then you don’t want to call. It is really that simple when you play online poker.
