Misconceptions about Professional Poker

If you are one of the countless poker players that dream of turning professional, check yourself with some facts and with what NOT to do. Never before has it been more possible to have a professional poker career. Yet never before has it been so challenging as millions of poker players have the same idea and dream and they chase those dreams and aspirations at online casino gambling websites, which have opened the door to the dreams of those wanting a career in professional poker.

One of the big mistakes many professional poker players make, however, is to watch the World Series of Poker or World Poker Tour on television. Sure, this is great poker action and entertainment and you may even learn about the game from watching, but you will also learn a painful lesson at what NOT to do if you emulate everything that you see on the television screen.

What you must understand when you watch the WSOP or WPT on television is that the program you are viewing is heavily edited with much of the routine hands being left on the cutting room floor. You only see the highlights of the event. It’s like watching a “SportsCenter” version of the poker tournament in question.

With that in mind, you would be foolish to make the same mistake of many poker players in trying to emulate the dear devil tactics of such professional poker superstars as Gus Hansen that are on the screen. What you don’t see are all of the hands that Hansen played cool, which lead to the aggressive move that he made that survived the cut from the producers of the program.
