Harrah's Entertainment Inc, owners and organizers of the World Series
of Poker has added detail to an earlier announcement that the world's
biggest poker event is to have a European equivalent.
The first European run of the prestigious championship will take place
in London between September 6 and 16 at three London casinos - Fifty,
Leicester Square and the Sportsman. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack
emphasized in the Harrah's press release that the European series
will have all the "....unique identity, style and flair,
but will remain true to the event's 38-year tradition and heritage."
"This new tournament has been designed with European players
in mind, but registrants from every country are welcome,"
he said. "We hope it becomes an annual tradition for poker
enthusiasts and a home for WSOP fans after the action concludes in
Las Vegas each summer."
The European WSOP starts September 6 with a three-day H.O.R.S.E. event
at the brand-new Leicester Square, which is also the site of a two-day
Pot-Limit Omaha tournament September 8.
The Main Event is scheduled for September 10 and is a six-day GBP10
000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em Championship. Play will be split amongst
all three casinos before being consolidated September 13 at Leicester
Square.
