According to MSNBC/Reuters Linden Lab has invited FBI agents to take a closer look at Second Life's virtual casinos and poker rooms. There are hundreds of virtual casinos in Second Life, but it is estimated that the top 3 are only earning $1,500 each per month.
Ginsu Yoon, Linden Lab's vice president for business affairs, said "the company was seeking guidance on virtual gaming activity in Second Life but had not yet received clear rules from U.S. authorities."
According to Sean Kane, a lawyer at New York's Drakeford & Kane, Linden Lab could potentially be viewed as a processor for online gambling transactions, and face charges under the Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
