Next year's Irish Poker Championships start early in the new year,
and the expected prize pool for the popular event is likely to be
around Euro 500 000, the organizers said in announcing the playing
schedule this week. It is believed that next year's event will be
the biggest of its kind yet staged in the Emerald Isle.
The tournament program looks like this:
Jan. 4, Citywest Mega Satellite, Euro 15 000 prize pool
Jan. 5, Citywest Mega Satellite, Euro 12 000 prize pool
Jan. 5, Citywest Main Event, Euro 500 000 prize pool
Jan. 6, Citywest Supporting Event, Euro 150 000 prize pool
Jan. 7, Citywest Supporting Event, Euro 120 000 prize pool
The Irish Poker Championships will consist of a series of nationwide
events leading up to the All-Ireland Poker Final. There will be local
satellites in Ireland as well as throughout the United Kingdom and
Europe.
Last year's main event was won by Kieran Walsh, a young business student
from County Cork, who took home Euro 150 000. This year's winner will
probably receive Euro 200 000.
Buy-in for the final event will be Euro 1 000, it will take place
Jan. 6-8 at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin and organizers are planning
for a field of some 500 competitors.
