The Carruthers story is fast turning into a modern-day version of a Greek tragedy, as our protagonist was stabbed in the back today by the current BetonSports management. In a desperate attempt to save their option schemes, BetonSports management decided to fire Mr. Carruthers effective immediately.

Company spokesman Hannah Seward issued the following statement: "This action was taken as a consequence of Mr Carruthers's continued detention by US authorities. Clearly, while he remains in the custody of the US government he is unable to perform his duties. Further, the company has been unable to speak directly with Mr Carruthers."

In absence of Mr. Carruthers BetonSports is currently managed by members of its board of directors including Chairman Clive Parritt, Finance Director Richard Creed and non-executive director Chris Callaway.

Though there doesn't seem much to manage at this time, as the BetonSports website has been closed down. The following statement appears on the site:

"IN LIGHT OF COURT PAPERS FILED IN THE UNITED STATES, THE COMPANY HAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED THIS FACILITY PENDING ITS ABILITY TO ASSESS ITS FULL POSITION. DURING THIS PERIOD NO FINANCIAL OR WAGERING TRANSACTIONS CAN BE EXECUTED. FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED ONCE THE COMPANY IS IN A POSITION TO DO SO."

Christopher Costigan of the premier sportsbetting portal Gambling911.com described BetonSports as "a sleeping giant, nonresponsive, and focused so intently on pleasing shareholders with lofty expansion plans over the past two years that there is no plan in place to manage 'crisis' situations such as this one." Costigan criticizes the company for its lack of communication with its customers. "BetonSports needs to issue a statement and issue it quick," he said.
