With the World Series of Poker about to peak (the main event is centred
on July 28) the next big poker championship, the 2006 World Championship
of Online Poker (WCOOP) is shaping up, and this week Pokerstars announced
the full schedule.
Pokerstars is underwriting three prize pools at a minimum of $1 million,
and a grand finale with a guaranteed $3 million pool. Last year's
main event winner pocketed a cheque for $577 342, together with the
traditional WCOOP bracelet awarded to every event winner.
This year's championship will run from September 16 through October
1, beginning with a Razz tournament and ending with the $2,500 + $100
No-Limit Hold'em final. Participants in the 2006 WCOOP will also have
the chance to compete in a new event using the increasingly popular
H.O.R.S.E. format, the $5,000 + $200 H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
