The Paddy Power.com sponsored 26th Irish Poker Open will have a guaranteed prize pool of Euro 2 million next year, the gambling group announced this week.

One of Europe’s most respected no limit Texas Hold ‘em poker tournaments, the event has been boosted by a doubling of the guaranteed prize pool to Euro 2 million, making it not only one of Europe’s richest tournaments but also its largest in terms of players. This year’s capacity will be 800, with players being split into groups of up to 400 for two 'day one' elimination contests

Although the buy-in is Euro 3 300 with a Euro 200 registration fee, players can qualify online every week at Paddy Power Poker.com from 27 August 2006 with two daily feeders to a weekly grand final

The main event will take place in Dublin over the Easter weekend in 2007.

This year's Irish Open saw 339 players competing for a guaranteed prize pool of Euro 1 million including some of the world’s leading professionals such as Mel Judah, Padraig Parkinson, Roy ‘the Boy’ Brindley and Per Hilderbrand. The winner, Vincent Melinn, picked up the Euro 350 000 first prize on a final table broadcast live across Europe on Sky Sports.

Brendan Murray, Paddy Power Poker communications manager says that unfortunately his company cannot accept US players.
