World Poker Tour Enterprises sues the Travel Channel

September 24, 2005 - World Poker Tour Enterprises has sued the Travel Channel in a California court for interfering with it's contractual right to air it's new Professional Poker Tour program on a non disclosed third party network (most likely ESPN).

eGaming Review publishes this year's award shortlists

September 23, 2005 - The last quarter of the year seems to be the season for awards from various publications, and this week eGaming Review published its shortlist of top online gambling sites from which its winners for 2005 will be selected.

Sportingbet cancels takeover negotiations with Empire Online

September 23, 2005 - Sportingbet, the largest online gaming company in the UK, cancelled takeover negotiations with Empire Online this week. Shares of both companies declined after the news was released. Empire Online took the largest hit, with an almost 20% drop.

OnGame director joins eCOGRA

September 19, 2005 - Michael Hirst OBE, the independent chairman of eCOGRA has announced the appointment of Swedish national Karl Magnusson (30) to the board of directors of the online gambling self- regulatory body.

Senator Kyl fails again to prohibit online gaming in the US

September 17, 2005 - Senator J. Kyl's proposal to amend an appropriations bill with legislation prohibiting online gaming was defeated in the Senate this Thursday. Senator Kyl is fighting his battle against online gaming for almost a decade now, but has never succeeded in his efforts to ban it, as illustrated by his latest attempt.

Bluff Poker Tour offers three WPT seats to winner

September 14, 2005 - The Bluff Poker Tour (BPT) is a 6 month online poker tournament divided into 31 weekly NL Texas Hold'em events. Each is hosted by a different online poker room, but they are all structured the same way. A buy-in of $30 gets you a starting chip count of 2,000. To win an event you'll have to survive 28 levels, with the blinds growing from 10/20 to 100,000/200,000.

Stars join CelebPoker at the 2005 World Music Awards

September 11, 2005 - CelebPoker got some good publicity and celebrity interest recently by attending the 2005 World Music Awards backstage. The stars were pampered with free gifts and merchandise as they returned from stage and walked into the CelebPoker booth.

Play Poker on your Mac computer

September 9, 2005 - For a long time PokerRoom.com was the only viable option to play online poker on your Macintosh computer, with it's no-download Java platform. Things seem to be changing fast with a number of new Mac poker offerings launched recently, including Pacific Poker.

PartyGaming shares drop 33% closing below IPO price

September 6, 2005 - PartyGaming shares plummeted 33.01 percent on Tuesday to 105p a share, well below it's 117p IPO price, and capping 2 billion pounds of it's market value. The nose-dive was triggered by a cautionary note from CEO Richard Segal made during his presentation of Party's half-year results, hinting at a slowdown in the online poker boom.

European Poker Tour kicks off at Casino de Barcelona next week

September 5, 2005 - The second season of the European Poker Tour (EPT) is about to kick off at the Casino de Barcelona in little more than a week from now. The EPT will visit seven European countries in a six month time frame, and culminates in the EPT Grand Final, to be held in the luxurious Monte Carlo Bay Hotel in Monaco, just like last year.

Empire Online receives large takeover bid

September 2, 2005 - Empire Online, the company operating Empire Poker, Noble Poker and several online casinos, announced today it has received a large takeover bid from an undisclosed party, via the acquisition of all it's outstanding capital at 270p per share.

Online poker rooms raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief

September 1, 2005 - Both Absolute Poker and PokerStars have announced they will be hosting online poker charity tournaments to raise money for the American Red Cross in their effort to bring relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
