Absolute Poker.com has joined the list of casinos, sportsbooks, poker
rooms and portals that are digging deep to alleviate the suffering
of the SE Asian tsunami victims...
The poker room is to donate all tournament fees from this Saturday's
activity to the International Red Cross, dedicated to helping those
people injured or left homeless by last weekend's earthquake and subsequent
tsunamis in Southeast Asia.
Poker Room Manager Gian Perroni estimates that this amount will reach
$25,000, and reveals that plans are in hand to provide convenient
opportunities for players to make direct personal donations, too.
In addition to the overall tournament buy-in fees, AbsolutePoker will
be hosting a special Tsunami Tourney in order to raise funds.
STOP PRESS: In another commendable effort on behalf of the stricken
tsunami areas, Poker Stars.com will be collecting donations from any
player willing to give. The company has pledged that it will match
these personal donations dollar for dollar and donate the money to
the International Federation of Red Cross.
Players can give by registering for a special "Donation Tournament."
by simply clicking "Tourney" then "Special" in
the Poker Stars game lobby, choosing to register for $1, $5, $10,
$20, $50 or $100.
Alternatively, players may choose to donate by selecting the "Requests"
link at the top left corner of the game lobby. Players should select
"Transfer funds…" and enter the amount of the donation
along with the Player ID "ReliefEffort." The donation amount
will then be matched by PokerStars before being given to the International
Federation of Red Cross.
STOP PRESS 2: Poker Room.com has also launched $20 and $100 tournaments
and will match the total prize pool and donate that sum to the International
Red Cross. All tournament winners may also choose to donate some or
all of their winnings, which PokerRoom.com will facilitate.
