The Game Show Network (GSN) announced earlier this week that the premiere of the first televised high stakes cash game, High Stakes Poker, is scheduled for Monday, January 16th. With a minimum buy-in of $100,000 and the option to rebuy, players can win or lose hundreds of thousands of their own dollars on one single hand.
High Stakes Poker is the first show to offer a unique insight into the biggest cash games played by a privileged elite of professional poker players and wealthy businessman. In tournaments like the World Series of Poker or the various WPT events a player can only lose his initial buy-in, usually $10,000. In high stakes cash games players regularly bet John Doe's yearly salary on a single hand. We expect High Stakes Poker to offer some of the most exciting and intense poker action ever to be caught on camera.
High Stakes Poker was recently filmed at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first episode will air on Monday, January 6, 2006. The complete series consists of thirteen one hour episodes. Each episode will also feature behind the scenes footage of it's all-star contestants, in addition to the play at the tables.
Some of the players that will participate in the High Stakes Poker TV show are:
- Doyle Brunson: Two-time winner of the World Series of Poker;
- Barry Greenstein: Most profitable cash game player ever;
- Phil Hellmuth: One of the best No Limit Holdem player with an attitude;
- Daniel Negreanu: 2004 Player of the Year;
- Dr. Jerry Buss: Owner of the Los Angeles Lakers;
- Bob Stupak: Legendary entrepreneur;
- Dr. Amir Nasiri: Successful Las Vegas physician.
Executive producer of High Stakes Poker is Henry Orenstein, inventor of the hole card cam. The show will be hosted by AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan.
