Another expensive land-based poker tournament for online operators
to sponsor players was announced this week.
The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has entered the top
ranks of non-web poker tournaments by offering the highest prizes
and attracting the most players. This year’s event was attended
by the second-largest number of players (10,085) and awarded the sixth-highest
prize pool ($6,002,300), meaning the championship, hosted by Pokerstars.com,
competes with the biggest television tournaments.
Three of the four major poker events with the largest number of entrants
this year were WCOOP tourneys. Only the main event of the World Series
of Poker attracted more players.
