A large amount of money - believed to be around $60 000 - was at
stake as we went to press last week following a dispute in the Prima
Poker -networked Captain Cook's online poker room.
Details were sketchy, but it appears that an unidentified player deposited
a large amount of "dirty" money in playing against several
gamblers on the site. There was also a suggestion that one player
pretended to be female by using his wife's identity in seeking a tactical
poker advantage.
When the money was found for unknown reasons to be contaminated, the
winnings of a respected top poker player were held back by Prima,
leading to a growing furore.
The current position is that Prima executive John Docherty has suggested
that the arguing parties agree on independent experts in the business
to mediate a solution. The costs of the review will be borne by Prima.
