With the explosion of poker as a televised sport, fans of the game have been clamoring for more information about their favorite players. Today Via Quinta Press released Poker Aces, The Stars of Tournament Poker, a book written by Ron Rose, winner of the inaugural WPT Battle of Champions, to answer that need.

Until now a visit to the local bookstore found the reader only poker advice books, game strategy and how-to books for every type of poker game – but no book for fans to check out stories, photos, personal facts and general information about the players they follow. Early in his tournament poker career, Ron Rose saw this information gap and set out to fill it. According to Rose, “After people saw me play on television they were full of questions for me. I recognized a need for them to have answers not only from me but from other players on the poker tour, and I went to work to see that they had all of the information they wanted at their fingertips.”

With Poker Aces, fans can read about some of the most visible and colorful poker players of today—not just facts and statistics, but personal stories like how David “Devilfish” Ulliott got his infamous nickname and how Amarillo “Slim” was kidnapped by a drug lord in South America. They will be riveted by the story of how Men “the Master” Nguyen and other Vietnamese players escaped South Vietnam and amazed at how Phil Laak used a couple of well-placed judo moves to survive a serious motorcycle accident.

The book is more than just a compilation of statistics and facts. It is an opportunity to take a peek at the human side of poker and learn what exactly lies behind those deadpan poker faces. Mike Sexton, the popular co-host of the World Poker Tour, cites this book as giving the reader “an insight as to who some of the top players are, their success stories, an in-depth look at their lives, and how they got involved in the poker world.”

Not only does the book contain the stories of the players, it has over 250 full-color photographs of the players and some interesting tips on how the reader can improve his game. Fans of the poker world cannot do without this valuable guide to the player they see on TV and in the poker rooms.

This 192 page folio book is 9x11.5 inches in size, and is perfect to keep on the coffee table as a quick reference to the players appearing the TV tournaments. Interested fans can buy the book now at www.ron-rose.com and other internet sites like Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Cardplayer.com. It will be released to bookstores this fall.
